Across Australia, the consumption of liquor is commonplace; it is a social lubricant, a celebratory aid, and a source of employment. In fact, ever year Australians consume more liters of alcohol per capita than either Canadians or Americas (9.8 as opposed to 8.0 and 8.4). One would rightfully assume then, that Queensland follows the same trend. In fact, in 2010, 93% of Queenslanders above the age of 14 had consumed alcoholic beverages at one point in the previous 12 months, 47% of these individuals drank every week. According to these statistics, it is reasonable to conclude that the act of consuming alcohol has been woven into the tapestry of Australian culture, as it has in many cultures.
