Applications and Uses of Some Metals
Metals have always played an important role in the development of man throughout history. In fact, some of the periods of advancement for man were named after metals—the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. The versatility and durability of metal show how important it is to humans. Non-ferrous metals in particular have many uses that are vital to many things that humans need today.
Historically, non-ferrous metals, like copper, and alloys, like bronze and brass, have been in use since early history. Copper, for example, has been in use since at least 10,000 years ago. The Roman Empire used brass for coinage and military equipment. Bronze is still being used for building material and weaponry to this day.
One of the oldest existing and most important non-ferrous metals used today is copper. It is the third most consumed metal for industrial purposes after iron and aluminum. Copper has a variety of uses—wiring, conductors, roofing, plumbing, and electrical circuits. Mixing copper with zinc to create brass or with tin to make bronze are just some of the metal's many uses.
Due to its non-volatile properties, architectural bronze is the metal of choice to make tools, like hammers and wrenches, meant for work settings where sparks are commonplace and pose danger. It is also used to create springs, bearings, and bushings due to its low metal-to-metal friction. Even strings for guitars and pianos use bronze.
A brass manufacturer understands what products work well when made with brass. It is most popular and practical in the production of wind musical instruments, like trumpets, horns, and saxophones. Brass is also durable and low-maintenance, making it an ideal choice, too, for making kitchen utensils and tableware. It is a good thermal conductor, as well, so it is found in radiators for cars and other vehicles.

From the dawn of civilization to the present times, those metals and alloys have been essential components in the development of humans’ daily lives.
