Truth is Stranger
What is it that causes people to love such strange hobbies? Is it boredom, or just that truth is stranger than fiction, and us humans are just odd creatures? Either way, people out there do some odd things for pleasure. Take ghost-hunting for example. Now, this is not to debate whether there are ghosts or not, and if there are not, then how can they be hunted - but a large number of people do spend their spare time hunting down ghouls and ghosts. So how do they do this? They use a range of gadgets such as Electromagnetic Field meters, or ‘EMF' meters. These apparently can detect the fluctuations in electromagnetic fields, which spirits are said to cause. Also, ghost-hunters love to use voice-recorders. These are able to pick up sounds that are not detected by the human ear first-hand, so when played back later, they may produce sounds which were not heard the first time. So that's one example of a strange hobby - but what's yours? The most important thing to do is catalogue and list what you do in the hobby. The best way to do that, in today's modern world, is make a website. You can then show family, friends, and the whole World what you have done in your spare time. This will add an element of fun, and reality, to what you do, as you know that it will all be recorded and detailed for good. This might sound complicated, but it doesn't need to be. With a wealth of options, you can find a free website builder to make the job much easier, so you can make a free website in your own time and at your own level of skill and detail. Then no matter how strange things get, you can show everyone. Take another example - Cosplay. The Term "Cosplay" was born around the mid of the 90s in Japan and it's the contraction of the words "costume" and "play". Basically it's a hobby where people recreate costumes in order to mimic some characters they love from Japanese animation and comics, but during the last years there has been a lot of contamination of cultures, so it's not strange to see cosplays taken from videogames or western comics and culture in general. Being a cosplayer is a state of mind: there's more than simply create or buy the costume. Usually people know deeply the characters that they are going to portray: it's almost necessary because you have to win the approval of the other cosplayers. Almost always people ask you to take some picture and you're required to copy the "signature positions" of the character you are playing. It's not required to act, unless you decide to create a gag for the audience, but you should at least mimic some of the expressions and poses of the character.
