The best things in life are free - or so they say. But is that really the case? It can be simply accepted that perhaps nothing is literally ‘free', but perhaps almost. For example, a day at the beach can cost little. But care must be taken, as dangers do lurk. Find the red-and-yellow flags and always swim or bodyboard between them. This is the safest part of the beach because it's where the lifeguards patrol. Lifeguards will move the flags along the beach during the course of the day to avoid rips or strong currents. Not all beaches have lifeguards, which is an important point also. Rips are strong currents that can quickly take swimmers from shallow water to water beyond their depth. Signs of a rip include: discoloured, brown water (caused by sand being stirred up from the seabed); foam on the water's surface and debris floating out to sea. Watch out for waves, especially if you have small children. Even a small wave can knock a child over. Dumping waves are especially dangerous. These waves break with great force in shallow water and occur during low tide. As well as the beach, look at each season as a new way to have fun. In the summer you can shoot hoops at the basketball court, play tennis or walk around the neighborhood with your friends. In the fall you can pull out your camera and take pictures of the autumn leaves. Fall is also a great time to go to a pumpkin patch. Winter is fun because you can play in the snow or stay inside and watch the snow with a cup of hot chocolate or a latte. Spring is great for bicycling! Invite your friends over for a night of board games, cards and charades. The cover charge is a small dish or drink of choice. Your contribution will be the free entertainment, so be ready to host! You may also choose to learn how to make your own website. With a free website, you can then be as creative as you wish, and you can also manage it in your own time. Learning how to create a free website will open up your mind to other possibilities also, of things you didn't know that you could do. You have the freedom of dedicating the site to anything you like. It could be your favourite hobby, a personal site all about you, or you could write about anything at all. So what else? Having a camp out can be a lot of fun, and if you do it in your own backyard then you won't even spend any money on camping fees. Pitch a tent (borrow one if you don't have one of your own) and settle in. Do you live in an urban area? See if you have a friend who will lend you her backyard for a night. Just because you may be short of cash doesn't mean that you can't enjoy yourself! There is a wealth of fun things to do just waiting for you. And the best part is that none of them cost anything at all!
