Keeping Your Product Safe
There is one surefire way to lose money as a business, and it doesn't involve bad investments or sub par customer service: losing merchandise. There are a variety of ways to lose merchandise, with the most common being having it stolen. Despite what most people might think, most stolen merchandise doesn't disappear thanks to a daring midnight robbery featuring ingenious plots and double crosses (we watch too many cop shows now a days, don't we?), but instead it just walks right out the door, with the help from your friendly neighborhood shoplifter. And just because your shop, boutique or supply store is in a good neighborhood doesn't mean it is safe from shoplifting; no matter where you work there are people who want your merchandise, if only to return it back to you or another location at a later date. The best way to stop shoplifting is actually pretty simple: put up a security camera, or security cameras.
Here's the thing that most people don't understand: a security camera is such a powerful deterrent that even if it you don't plug it in it will work to a certain degree. The last thing a shoplifter wants to do is get caught, mostly because they aren't shoplifting out of necessity, but instead out of want. It's not like most shoplifters are taking bread to feed their family, they are taking stuff like CD's, DVD's, electronics and other small or medium sized items. The last thing a shoplifter wants to do is get caught, especially on camera, which is why even the presence of a camera will stop them from lifting something that they want, instead of need.
Will having a security camera help prevent all the occurrences of shoplifting? Probably not. Sometimes people just don't care if they are being videotaped. Of course, if it's something serious enough you can always turn the video over to the cops who can track down the shoplifter and take them to justice (even if you aren't able to get back your merchandise). With that said, it will help cut down on a lot of grab and runs, because those who typically do that sort of thing don't think it's worth the risk if they are on tape. It may happen so fast that an employee can't get their face, but the security camera surely won't miss the opportunity.
You can find a variety of shops online that specialize in selling Security Camera systems. Be sure to take a look around to look for what types of prices you can find for what plans. It's worth spending a couple of extra bucks on a system that is easy to set up and use when you need to take a look at some of the video.
