How a Security Camera Can Keep You Safe
Unfortunately, it may take something not so pleasant to convince you to put up a security camera, or security cameras, at your home. Maybe it's a break in, or some vandalism, or worse. It's the kind of things that you never want to think about happening. The thing is, though, it's the kind of stuff you need to think about and think about regularly. We aren't talking about obsessing about it, just understanding that the longer you wait to put up a proper security system at your home the more at risk you are to the things you don't want to think about. Can you go your entire life without having a security cameras and not experience a break in or stolen property? Sure. Is it worth taking the risk, though, with so much on the line? Not really, unless you want to leave it all to chance.
The thing that most people don't like to think about is the idea of chance. People like to think that people who have their house broken into or their car stolen from their driveway had it coming in some way. Like they didn't lock or their doors, or they were being stalked by someone who knew their every move or something. While that idea is comforting, it's just not true. Most break in's are random because of the fact that most people don't have proper security.
The major misconception about security camera's is that they work because they get the purp's image on tape and thus allow police to track them down. While this is true, and it's worth setting one up for that reason alone, there is also another reason why camera's work: prevention. A person who is breaking into a home or business wan'ts to do so as silently and invisibly as possible. The last thing they want to do is deal with a security system that will tape their every move. Despite how the media might portray them, most burglars are smart and will skip over any house that has a security camera. Even if you have good stuff for the taking a burglar won't want to deal with the risk of getting caught, which is exponentially higher when a security camera is involved. That's where the prevention comes in.
In a perfect world, you hope to never have to use a security camera to identify someone who broke in and stole your property. You are essentially spending money on it with the hope of never having to use it like that. In a way, not having to look at the tape on a security camera with the cops means that it's working perfectly.
