Recovery from most surgical procedures takes some time. A facelift, technically known as a rhytidectomy, involves deep incisions along the hairline and ears. Excess skin is removed, and the incisions are closed with sutures or staples which are removed after at least five days. The surgeon prescribes pain medication and antibiotics following the procedure.

Some pain and swelling are normal especially after the surgery when the skin may feel a little numb too. You may feel self-conscious about swelling and hematoma (bruising), but these post-operative symptoms should fade after several days. However, do not hesitate to consult your surgeon if severe pain or swelling occurs.

Because of the significant alteration on the skin, it may feel tender and numb. The skin may not respond to touch like it used to. Do not worry because this is normal and the numbness will go away after a few weeks. The skin may also be bruised; this is normal following any surgical procedure and do not signify any problems.

Some Los Angeles facelift procedures may vary among patients, but most surgeons recommend refraining from strenuous activity like heavy housework to avoid strain on the skin. Most patients are also advised to avoid saunas and limit exposure to the sun for several months. Heat and sweating can irritate the skin and the incisions. Most of all, adequate rest and proper nutrition is recommended for fast healing.

The Los Angeles facelift procedure may leave scars, but the incisions and sutures are positioned to align with the natural creases on the skin and along the hairline. The scars that shall form are not likely to become keloids. Just avoid scratching on them if they itch. The skin on the temples may feel thin, dry, and rough. This is non-problematic, and you may consult your surgeon for medication for mild irritation.

Just remember that the Los Angeles facelift procedure decreases sagging and makes wrinkles less visible. The face looks younger and fresher, but repeat procedures may have to be done within ten years. However, the standard procedure certainly has lasting effects and leaves you feeling younger, beautiful, and confident.
