No matter how well you take care of your skin, it is still subject to the natural process of aging.  Sagging, wrinkling and drying are some of the common skin problems brought about by aging. However, even though the process is natural, doesn’t mean proactive ways can’t be done to alleviate it.

With all the advancements in dermatology, various skin surgical treatments have become remedies for skin aging problems. An extremely popular surgical technique is rhytidectomy, commonly known as facelift. According to studies done by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, facelift is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries. This intends to give the patient a more youthful and radiant appearance by removing wrinkles and excess facial skin.

There are many types of facelifts and they vary based on the type of incision, number of treated tissue layers, area of the face and degree of invasiveness. In some cases, facelifts can be done in combination with other treatments. The facelift techniques available today are designed to meet each patient’s specific needs and include other complex procedures.

One type of a facelift Tampa procedure is the Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System (SMAS) lift. This procedure is administered by lifting the top layers of the skin along with the deeper tissues of the face and neck. During this procedure, the incision is made at the temple, just above the hairline, and is extended downward. The surgeon then elevates the skin and uses stitches to keep it stable in its new position.

Another type of facelift Tampa is the short scar facelift. In this procedure, the surgeon would make an S-shaped incision at the temple or in front of the ear. Unlike in traditional facelifts, the incision does not reach behind the ear but still allows the surgeon to re-suspend the tissues and tighten a moderate amount of loose skin. The short scar facelift is ideal for people who want to minimize scarring after the procedure.

The recovery period for a facelift surgery depends on the every patient’s case. For example, the SMAS lift requires more period for recovery than the short scar facelift. Surgeries such as in Florida blepharoplasty and facelift may also include risks and other complications associated with the surgical procedure.
